A new year is upon us and that means one thing: a new wardrobe. Here, Rachel Clinkard, Ecommerce Director at Charles Clinkard, shares four of the hottest new shoe styles that you’ll be wearing later this year.
The party season may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t update your wardrobe with some stylish new trends. The Spring/Summer 2019 catwalks were full of bold statement shoes with a distinctly maximalist feel, so this is your chance to go all out with some attention-grabbing new pairs. In this post, I’ll give you a sneak peek of four must-have shoe styles that are set to take the fashion world by storm this year.
Ballet shoes
Lovers of comfy shoes rejoice! The ballet shoe is back in style. Practical enough to wear to work, yet pretty enough to wear with a sundress at the weekend, ballet flats are the perfect casual footwear. Flats in soft nudes and pinks were all the rage at Dior’s spring show, which was inspired by the world of ballet. You’ll get bonus style points if you go for flats with a criss-cross ribbon tied at the ankle, just like a real ballerina.
Rope details
Rope details were another key trend on the Spring/Summer catwalks, from the platform sandals seen at the Michael Kors show, to the chunky white rope sandals on the Milly runway (WWD). There’s something slightly nautical about this easy-going trend, which gives it a summery, beach-ready feel — ideal for the approaching season. To get the look, go for a strappy stiletto with woven details in place of traditional straps, or wear a criss-cross rope sandal for a modern take on the gladiator.
Statement heels
Statement heels were a key feature on last year’s catwalks, but the trend is set to get bigger and bolder this year as translucent heels take the stage. Chanel led the way on the spring runways with an array of see-through mules during their beach-themed show (Harper’s Bazaar), meaning that Lucite and Perspex heels are about to become the new must-have accessory for the summer. Look out for transparent shoes with pretty details — such as glitter, gold-leaf flakes, or even flowers — set inside the heel for a really eye-catching look.
Feathers
Fun, glamourous, and a little bit quirky, feather shoes are guaranteed to make a statement: try teaming a pair of feather details with an LBD for a glam night on the town. You don’t need to go for towering stilettos either, as this trend works just as well on mid-heel or flat shoes. Feathers were even seen adorning sliders and mules at the Valentino’s ready-to-wear show (Vogue), so you can incorporate the trend into your casual wardrobe, too.
Spring may not be here just yet, but that’s no reason why you can’t get a head start on next season’s biggest trends. Keep my tips in mind next time you hit the shops, and you’ll be set to look on point all the way through 2019.
